The Kinship Care Program - Grandparents Raising Grandchildren

Are you a grandparent, an aunt, an uncle, or other relative raising a grandchild or other minor children? In Georgia there are approximately 53.785 children living in households headed by relatives other than grandparents (aunts, uncles, siblings). That translates to almost 2.5% of all children in the state.

The Kinship Care Program is involved in providing services to grandparents and/or other relatives who are raising grandchildren or other minor children. With approximately 10% of all children in the state of Georgia being raised by their grandparents, Kinship Care Program is very important. There is a monthly support group that offers discussions and topics of interest. It allows the grandparents to learn from each other in a supportive and confidential environment. The Kinship Care Program provides assistance to the grandparents in applying for state aid, legal aid, and general counseling.

Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Support Group meets monthly in Muscogee and Stewart Counties. Any grandparent or relative caregiver raising children is welcome to attend! All personal information shared in the group is confidential. The topics for these meetings are based on the group’s concerns and needs guest speakers are invited to address the support group to share their expertise. The times and locations are:

Muscogee County: 
Second Tuesday of every month, 10:30 am, Columbus Public Library on Macon Road

Stewart County:
Second Thursday of every month, 10:00 am, Stewart County Elementary School

River Valley Regional Commission/Area Agency on Aging is providing sercives to grandparents or other relatives raising grandchildren or other minor children
