The number of grandparent-headed families is increasing daily. Many families today are affected by substance abuse, incarceration, divorce, chronic illness, early death, teenage pregnancy, child abuse, and domestic violence. This can happen to any family regardless of race, belief, economic status, or ethnicity. Fortunately, these children have their grandparents to take care of them in their moment of need. Grandparents come forward when birth parents cannot provide care. Often, the family has many needs and does not know how to get help.
River Valley Regional Commission/Area Agency on Aging is providing services to grandparents or other relatives raising grandchildren or other minor children.
