AAA will serve as the single point of entry for all services. Clients are initially referred to Information and Referral by providers of services, family members, DFCS, physician offices, hospitals, and other sources.
An Information and Referral database has been developed to provide information to callers regarding providers and/or services across the state. This form of advocacy is designed to improve access to all services available and is expected to grow as the Baby Boomer population ages.
Seniors, caregivers, general public, and others call the AAA Information/Assistance Referral Specialist (I & A) requesting information or services available within the sixteen (16) county area. Appropriate resources and/or eligibility of the caller/applicant are determined. Detailed answers and/or referrals are provided to caller's specific questions or needs. All steps are taken to assure the client complete, accurate and helpful responses. Follow up is provided as needed. The caller is invited to call back to let the specialist know if help was obtained or if additional information is needed. An effort to provide the client with two (2) or more resources is made.
Confidential records, forms and/or documentation of these referrals are maintained with a brief description of the activity the client was referred to.
There are more than 2500 services and 950 providers of services on record for the sixteen (16) county area. Adding information on providers and services to the database is ongoing.
The Specialist identifies the needs of the client, always making certain to consider all calls to Information and Referral as equal in importance. A non-judgmental stance ensures that greater value is not placed on some needs more than others.
Information and Referral is preventative in nature. If a caller is enough in command of his/her situation to know clearly what he/she needs, but simply lacks information, the Information and Referral program affirms their integrity by providing that piece of information which will help them maintain control over their life. The Information/Referral process provides the means for seniors to empower themselves to meet their own individual needs.
